ABSTRACT       This research is motivated by the difficulty of junior high school students in thinking algebra, which is characterized by the low ability of students to interpret variables. The purpose of this study is to analyze the application of learning by using the Math-Talk Learning Community model in improving students' algebraic thinking skills. This research is a quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent control group design. The population of this study were all seventh grade students at one of the public junior high schools in Metro City in even semester. The sample was determined based on purposive sampling technique and the material chosen was quadrilateral flat shapes. The two classes selected were VII.4 class of 29 students as an experimental class using learning with the Math-Talk Learning Community model and VII.3 class of 29 students as a control class using learning with the usual model. The data on students' algebraic thinking ability was obtained using an algebraic thinking ability test instrument given to the students studied before the students were given treatment (pretest) and after being given treatment (posttest). The results showed that the increase in algebraic thinking ability of students who received learning using the Math-Talk Learning Community model was significantly higher than students who received learning using the usual model based on the overall students
